Hello Lists,
Sorry for the late forward-notice.
This Monday, September 4th, is the next Freenix workshop of the
BSD-GNU/Linux Users (we are not a Group because we complement, rather
than compete with, CLUG's very fine work):
7.30pm, Sydenham Community Centre, 25 Hutcheson Street, Christchurch.
Our meeting descriptor of Freenix Community Network indicates our
project focus, and we structure our gatherings as inclusive Workshops
rather than demonstrative talks, in the main. Our first order of
business is always technical support for new GNU/Linux users, and we
focus on plain and robust distributions in order to ease everyone's
learning curve. Our object is not to be distracted by GUI complexity, so
that command line skills for system administration can gain more
credence. Recommended specialist guidance is also available at CLUG, so
Freenix never clashes with the CLUG timetable. Extra GNU/Linux exposure
is what Freenix Workshop offers Users, and all are welcome to patch into
our network there. Questions and requests from participants lead each
meeting off.
Our current project focus is Software Freedom Da

great fun and success as people choose to make it. Details:
http://www.infohelp.co.nz/sfd3 - there are just a few unclaimed T-shirts
for those wanting to help out. A (mini-)Installfest was mooted by CLUG
early this year, to be run in conjunction with SFD. We have booked the
Sydenham Room for that purpose, and will be showing Revolution OS
"Two-disk Special Edition" in there - a must-see for all those who
haven't. Come along and help with further arrangements if you like -
distro neutrality is assured, but we'll have a ton of free, new Ubuntu
CDs to give out as well.
Light supper provided, donations cover meeting costs. Data-projected
explanations available on call.
More info on request,
cheers
