With due reverance and gratitude for the insightful presentation on
Unix/Linux history so kindly put up for us yesterday by Michael Kerrisk
and Jim Cheetham, there is more..

*Thursday 10 February, 7.30pm, Sydenham Community Association Hall, 25
Hutcheson Street, Christchurch*

An open format meeting to discuss a range of possibilities and topics
outside of the CLUG meeting parameters (of the past two or three years).

Viz, and the space is open to discussion beyond these (please bring ideas):

* Proactive GNU/Linux advocacy, support, and study/development.
* Regular, hands-on experience of the BSDs.
* A Debian User Group?
* A 'Debian School' of GNU/Linux thought and tuition?
* Server-side training, for SysAd career hopefuls.
* Free Software Foundation affiliation?
* A GNU/Linux Users group?
* A BSD-GNU/Linux Users group? (B-GLU; optimal scope).
* Campaign against Software Patents.

On the last point, I have the impression that CLUG is not all agreed. So
it is necessary to step outside the LUG and discover those who are. A
specific, focussed workgroup can achieve a lot in support of Richard
Stallman's position on the mutual benefits of freely shared innovation
(#8). OSS/NZ has no coordination on this yet.

I can provide new written material on the above themes (by hyperlink) as
a basis for discussion, if so requested. But mostly it is time to hear
everyone's views.

My apologies for the indirectly late notice. There was no means of
raising this set of Linux-related points without appearing to grandstand
before the LUG, and divert attention away from its highly stimulating,
regular meeting of 09Feb2005. Clearly, optimal results all round are
required.

Happy to take enquiries,

May the Gnu be with you.

Rik
