OneRNG blinking and no data

Hello,

I've been using quite intensively my OneRNG key (v2.0, bought in late 2015) last year. It was on for about 2 or 3 mounth, but got rate problems. The more the key was plugged in, the less the bitrate was...

So I removed the key and stop using it for a while.

I wanted to know more about this issue and investigate on it, so I try to reuse it, but now it only blink each 2 or 3 seconds and does not fill the entropy pool.

I tried on ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 with the official firmware (3.6.1) and with the manual method (by accessing directly /dev/ttyACM0) and it's the same.

rngd log (in syslog, is there another place to look at rngs logs?) says :

Jul 5 14:13:21 pc systemd[1]: Starting rng-tools.service...
Jul 5 14:13:21 pc rng-tools[11623]: Starting Hardware RNG entropy gatherer daemon: rngd.
Jul 5 14:13:21 pc systemd[1]: Started rng-tools.service.

Jul 5 14:13:21 pc rngd: No entropy sources working, exiting rngd
Jul 5 14:21:27 pc systemd-udevd[12957]: Process '/sbin/onerng.sh 2-1.1' failed with exit code 1.
Jul 5 14:39:35 pc systemd[1]: Starting rng-tools.service...

Jul 5 14:39:35 pc rngd: message repeated 99 times: [ read error]
Jul 5 14:39:35 pc rngd: No entropy sources working, exiting rngd

Hope my key is not dead...

Can you give me a little help ?

For info, I use OneRNG for research purpose (and not security) and wanted to only listen on OneRNG raw entropy, not other entropy sources that might be used by the linux kernel, so I always read data by accessing /dev/ttyACM0, the doc says it's not recommended, but is there another way to do what I want to do ?

Thanks,
Andréas
