DJI have a proprietry system which was the
hardest to crack, but some managed to make them force land but
only when they were within the target boundary. They admitted that
they would have no chance with the GPS pre-mapped ones, since they
emit no signal, so will be the biggest threat.

I suspect that the DJI must be receiving TCAS
from aircraft. They have the habit of landing when planes go
overhead, regardless of what is below them, so to me it seems that
transmitting squitter might get rid of 90% of the ones that can
carry a camera.
the specifics, someone said it was based on an overseas unit, so
presumably there will be some clues on the internet.
I'm not sure the NZTA BT is stored, and since it breaches all
sorts of privacy, is unlikely to be allowed for the benefit of
tracking a mac address, assumming the phone is what got
registered.
Prevention vs Cure etc. The realities of getting the police
involved seem remote to me. If you are serious about this then you
should talk to them first and find out what kind of information
they need to secure confiscation of equipment / arrest. Not taking
this step leaves you wide open to the vagaries of second guessing
the legal situation and spending huge time, money and effort for
nought.

Same issues relate to the NZTA system - what is recorded, for how
long, and who has authorized access to it.

Like the idea of an audio recorder triggered by the drone acoustic
signature...

Again, not sure if jammed drones fall out of the sky, hover, or
return to launch site (via GPS). more opportunities for
speculation.

It seems reasonable that drones will use ISM for control, it seems
reasonable that you are allowed to take steps to protect yourself
and your property, it seems reasonable that you can post notices
warning drone owners that they are not permitted to fly over your
air-space. Again, this is only my viewpoint, and is speculation.

We're not just trying to prevent these guys from operating
nearby, we're trying to be able to ID them by their Wifi/BT ID's
so the police can collar them.

The NZTA system operates in many locations. I don't have a
smartphone so I'm hoping Apple and Google enable BT discovery as
a default and if so I find it highly likely most people won't
switch that off. The tracking systems in malls probably rely on
that.

If not BT then there's always sniffing the cellphone SIM ID from
the GSM signal? Mark?

Also, drones have a fairly unique audio signature that could be
detected via microphone? That could be the trigger for logging
the other stuff and sending out alerts.

Detect, log identifying data, disable the drone and then call
the cops in while they're out of the car trying to figure out
why the drone fell out of the sky. :^)
