The main difference (AFAIK) is that LoRaWAN operates in
unlicensed spectrum (868/915MHz) whereas NB-IoT is for
licensed bands.
If there'd be an interest from the group I can bring over few
LoRaWAN "things" that I've built for the next meeting.

Vodaphone is deploying "NarrowBand IoT" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NarrowBand_IOT,
which can go in the Cellular network bands.

Spark are going LoRa - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LPWAN
- which looks to be on separate bandwidth from Cell
Phone traffic.

To me, it looks like the Spark offering is actually a
new service and most likely superior for true IoT apps
(low power, occasional short messages like utility
meters, garage doors, light bulbs and toasters), and the
Vodafone offering is a "but we can do this!" to muddy
the waters, as who really needs Mb/s+ speed for an IoT
device?

They might end up being complementary...
