Anyone remember the Newbear 7768 ? 6800 based, 680kHz clock (!),
cost almost 200 quid in 1979, which was a lot of dosh. Wondered if
it was going to be a waste of money --- then my world changed.

Bought one of these kits on an 8 x 8" board with 2k bytes external
RAM (2 x 2114s).

Everything was entered (literally) with switches and LEDs, but
eventually paper tape (home-made optical paper tape reader).

Home made video display unit (VDU) based on a Thompson CSF SFF96364
which managed 1200 baud.

Wonder how you duplicate paper tape now, maybe using a photocopier
and OCR...

Main software was CoRes (co resident editor and assembler)

Also made an EPROM programmer (2716 devices)

At work we were using 1702 EPROMs (20 min erase cycle), which needed
3 PSU rails.

Lots of other projects, and huge learning curve for a kid.
