The library sounds like a lovely idea to add even more value to our meetings. The central library is great for lending books so I was wondering if we could extend the idea to tools, parts or even robots. Of course we can rotate items through the free stuff table if we don't feel the need to have them back. Or raffle popular items like the propeller protoboards that Hanno and Parallax have generously donated. Provided people take their unwanted items home again the free stuff table manages itself quite informally like everything else we do :-) We could add a sticker to our library items worded something like 'Christchurch Robotics Library' Return to the free stuff table when finished. Any thoughts? I have some books I could donate.

I think it's a great idea, but it needs some commitment from someone to keep
an eye on it. One thing I have used to do this sort of thing is LibraryThing
(www.librarything.com). You can enter all the books that are part of the
collection, even if they are physically dispersed among many people, then you
can use the tag field to say if a book is 'in' or 'out', and if it's out, who
has it.

To be honest, I have found the Christchurch library to have a generally good
collection of books of all kinds. If you want to donate your books to them
it would be easier to let them manage them.

Best wishes,
