[chbot] Lego Mindstorms NXT (circa 2006)

I'm considering running up my obsolete and unsupported Lego Mindstorms NXT
to show my 6 year old grandson.

Does anyone have recent experience and advice for running Lego NXT? It was
supported under vintage Windows and I have Windows 11, Linux and Mac OS
available.

There is the open source Lejos route, though I think he's a little young
for Java programming.
