Fixed the issue per Richards suggestion.

Since Col compiled the sample without issue, then I was pretty sure it 
was a tool-chain issue.

Hadn't spotted that the g++ preprocessor was being invoked; just needed 
to change the compiler from avr-g++ to avr-gcc in the makefile.

As usual, right under my nose.

Modularity has been restored, and the font table is in it's rightful place.
