Have you considered in addition to inert gas using some kind of chemical
oxygen and/or water scavenger

An example of something that exists in the world, tho I have no idea of

It seems that most oxygen absorbers you see in food rely on water vapour
to oxidise iron, so not useful to you.


As for knowing how full the container is, you could try using coloured
argon ;)
