[chbot] LoRa hardware

I’d also be keen on running a lorawan gateway both static , in the northern city, and rural mobile. Might pay for us to standardise on a low cost platform that we can all use and configure collectively.

Stuart is very correct. I’ve two dragino pi shields, however haven’t used them as gateways due to the fact they are single channel.

While there are tutorials on connecting the dragino boards as gateways, they will only forward packets on the one channel they are configured for. As such other nodes (not configured for your single channel), will have some packets sent to your gateway that simply not be posted to TTN and some (as nodes cycle through channels) that will. However you can restrict your own nodes to use a single channel and all packets can be forwarded to TTN.

I suspect that the Jacar LoraGateway is single channel… but can’t find definitive documentation either way.

The Nicegear gateway looks great for the price and I’ll certainly do some more research on it’s function.

I’ve several TTGO LORA boards (T Beam, GPS, 18650, power management, ESP32). They are fantastic, and low cost, however do have a limited 3.3v voltage regulator (300ma? Ish), so don’t think about powering several external sensors.

Regards,
Daniel.

According to Dragino website, that gateway is EOL and is also not recommended for LoRaWAN, probably because it is single channel. - see here https://www.dragino.com/products/lora/item/117-lg01-p.html<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dragino.com%2Fproducts%2Flora%2Fitem%2F117-lg01-p.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C580366f099fe4092573608d79ef52ae1%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637152648142425257&sdata=PHGYk7oMXhA3PVksT8YbBZAttvNDujuEsw5faBjvPtY%3D&reserved=0>

Jaycar for example have a gateway for $119 - any good?

For a node, is US$20 expensive?

and is it likely to be any good with that chip on it? Would it be
straightforward putting it onto 915MHz band? What is the likelihood of
finding firmware to run on it?

Cheers all
