Run from either the willowbank wildlife reserve, or the south island wildlife hospital to the middle of the unlabelled building in the very lower left.

Trying to produce a backbone that they can stream video from and bounce other wifi ap’s from to cover other buildings in the park. Given the very generous nature of the Christchurch Robotics group I think we can get a very robust backbone for Willowbank to rely upon for many years to come.

Given it’s fibre it’ll be run through UV protected pipe and clipped to the lower rail of the fence (that’s upper rail is electrified) that runs most of the way to the Kiwi House and run across buildings where the fence does not run.

It might be worth a try just with an AP and a laptop to see what sort of range you can achieve using Wifi. It might be better than you think.

Someone/something digging up or putting a spade through your fibre is going to make for a sad day. It is much easier to fault-find broken cables for Wifi :-).

Pity that Wifi Halow is not yet really available.

Charles, thanks for the reply. Had looked at a point to point wifi link (it’ll need to be directional given the distance), however there is no line of sight from either the portacom or the main office, both heavily obscured by well established trees. As such I discounted that option.

Given their very limited current network, the run  to the kiwi house would enable video streaming, remote telemetry (with alerts) and data recovery of the incubators, kiwi weights and stop a clear majority of the sneekernet network that is required of the current system.

Any help appreciated.
