[chbot] Help! Upgrading OS X

I have significant experience with macOS. Happy to help out if you are around and need some help.
Feel free to reply directly - may be you could pop by or I could visit you .. as I am not sure if I will make it along on Monday. I would suggest that you that if you do not have a backup of the system, that this is done prior to the update due to the file system upgrade which will likely take place automatically.
I would probably say that assuming you have a backup, the best bet is to boot from another system and then upgrade the drive while booted from an external drive. Also, it would be worth while checking the file system and the drive for bad blocks (if it is not an SSD) prior to the upgrade. Also, if it is a 2012 ish macBook, it could have a cable problem (very common) or a logic board issue again very common (but not critical just makes the machine slow unless you remove one of the RAM sticks).
