If the fridge / freezer is not performing it is likely to be a problem in
either the compressor, seals or the thermostat or a combination of those. I
would be tempted to graph the temperature. If the temperature is too low,
replace the thermostat. If the temperature not low enough inspect the seals
and if the seals are fine, the compressor is probably worn out so recycle
it.
This device comes with a temperature probe and you can file the results
from the USB interface and plot them using your favourite spreadsheet or
gnuplot:
