Thanks for the replies guys

Fastlynx was the sort of thing I thought about but couldnt remember
what it was called, my laptop has a true serial port so will go down
that route, only really need to retrieve the program not the whole
disk

The hard drive is definitely IDE but I think a very early
implementation which is why the USB adaptor doesnt like it, I might
try a PC PSU to power the drive as maybe the USB adaptors PSU may be a
bit light

The issue with floppy drive heads rusting is probably what happened
here as the drive hasnt been used for years and is only a few hundred
metres from the sea

A bit of a trip down memory lane for as well
