You must install the guest OS special stuff (non-free, binary only) that
you download from next to virtualbox. The USB stuff is not open source,
oracle considers that to be for businesses only and wants them to
contribute to development.
Alternatively, attach the stick filesystem to the host OS and export it
as filesystem to the guest.
Alternative applications like qemu or KVM aren't made for the desktop so
support your USB stick even less, I'd expect without having tried.
Try vmware, there was some free version but otherwise expect to pay $$$.
I'm not aware of any other options. Virtualbox is your best bet.
