I have a use for such a thing to also have a knob to change the time
from a few minutes to up to 3h. Needs to switch 10A.

My idea so far was to cut up an extension cable and stuff a panel-mount
pot into a suitable box together with a tiny arduino. Displaying the
remaining time would be perfect... :-)

Are there simple-to-use 3-digit low power LCD modules around? No
interest in programming LCD matrix controller chips...
