Volker has some very good observations regarding the safety (or otherwise).
Having had quite a few LCD monitors apart, most have a mains to DC
converter and then a chopper to provide the various voltage.
Some are just what you'd find inside a power supply brick.
Not sure how many amps the 5v side is capable of, but they 'might' be
worth checking.... 2 at 5amps might get you what you want
Usually its the 105 deg caps that have gone past their use by date (some
are only 1000hrs), making them unwilling to start or run for a few
minutes on warm days.
