Hi Volker

"in the interest of eco-friendlyness please do not dispose of it at Molten
Media"???

Is there a better place? Why not Molten Media? As I have a trailer load
heading in that direction next week.
Some older Sun servers that I powered up 4 years ago, very much like Mark
the power consumption vs benefit is questionable :)

Cheers
Mike

That's 8kW. How are you planning to connect that up in your house?
Charles' response gets the cake!

Let's say it actually draws 1kW. That's 24h * 365 days = 8760 kWh per year,
plus the inconvenience of constant ear plugs. Given this kit is 8+ years old
you are truely looking at a historic piece of current-day junk. For this
money you can by a pile of small-case PCs with more computing power and a
fraction of the electricity demand. They're also faster to install Linux on,
if time is of concern to you. Unfortuantely the geek factor and especially
the crazy factor are not nearly as high.

So you take your preferred pick.

You can bring it to the next meeting and we can all say a ceremonial
good-bye to it if that makes you feel better. Community support, spiritual
connectedness to ancestry and such. However in the interest of
eco-friendlyness please do not dispose of it at Molten Media.

Volker
