Hey Chris,
        It may also be worth investigating the Lantronics X-Port. There are 
various versions although the one I've seen looked liike a large RJ45 socket 
which converted Serial to IP and hosted the standards servers as-well. Dev 
kit available for $264 from Soanar+, otherwise I remember the units costing 
about $50.
