In order to provide more evenings of lively music and dance for the =
growing number of people who enjoy contra, Guildford Folk Dancers are =
starting a new group called Guildfordcontra. The new group will run =
within the Guildford Folk Club but will not be replacing, or in =
competition with, existing club activities. Having supported and hosted =
American dance and specific contra events for many years, Guildford has =
a long history of welcoming bands and callers from both the US and the =
UK and has been crucial in helping to develop a thriving community of =
contra dance enthusiasts both locally and farther afield. As part of =
this new initiative, two contra dance events have been organised for the =
autumn, featuring expert callers Michael Barraclough (11th September) =
and Mike Courthold (13th November), and introducing Judith Cooper's =
brand new contra dance band, Cruise Control.  Both events are at Jacobs =
Well Village Hall . As their regular crowd of contra dancers will =
attest, the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly, the music never =
stops and the dancing is addictively enjoyable. We look forward to =
welcoming both stalwart supporters and newcomers of all ages to what =
promises to be exhilarating evenings of great music and enthusiastic =
dancing.=20
